Most of the world still believe in a god…but considering it's ONLY 2009, is it really THAT shocking?
IF YOU DON’T WISH TO READ ALL OF THIS, JUST ANSWER THIS:
Don’t you think we’re well on track? Don’t you think we are where someone would predict we would be? 1.1 billion non-believers in 2009 who invest trust in science, not myth.
Do you agree that this is where we should be in 2009? Do you think we should be further along by now?

Imagine you’re an alien that has been watching us for 100, 000 years. For the first 90, 000 we were, for all intents and purposes, glorified apes. Small tribes with primitive, feudal engagement over necessities like food, shelter and, well, women (I apologize if it sounds as though I’m objectifying). We were simply hunter gathers. However, with the Neolithic Revolution about 10, 000 years ago, when we took control away from chance, and place it in our own hands.

We all know the rest. We have been attached to a rocket ever since. We’ve learned of genes, germs and grenades (sadly, by this I mean WMDs). Yes, we have figured out how most things work. So much so, the age of scientific discovery is starting to draw to a close now in 2009. Having seizures is no longer believed to be caused by bad sprits, but by, perhaps, the neurological disorder, epilepsy.
How? The under current of progression has delivered us here. While the masses accept what is easy, there are those who reject, repent and move us forward fueled with the desire to know the truth. Until the knowledge of the undercurrent goes, well, excuse the pun, mainstream

Oh yes, our alien friend would have watched us grow. If he were to look at his own people’s/creature’s history, would see a time when the inexplicable was explains by something like the awe inspiring institution of the a know all, be all majesty; of a divine being; the human god(s). The masses of his population would have been pulled away from such explanations by the same under current of progression we have been riding and watched go pow under our feet in the 20th century where we did more a race in 100 years, that hominid species have done in 250, 000 years.

I don’t feel angry at theist or deists, for if our alien friend were to guess where would be in 2009, I’m sure we’d be right on track to meet his/her/it’s expectations. As long as we continue to move away from our primitive past of not being able to explain darn near anything, everything will be fine.
However if we fail to, we will not become a type one civilization on the Kardashev scale we will go the way many other intelligent life forms in the universe have…extinct.

So, do you agree that this is where we should be in 2009? Do you think we should be further along by now?

Add people who say they are christians and muslims together and they amount to just under a third of the world population the majority of the rest is made up of atheists and religions without gods!! So they are in the majority here!!!

But the turh is still exceedingly different!!

The churches own figures show only 28% ever attend church in a year. Indeed if 28% ever tried to attend church on the same day, even working shifts, there is simply not enough churches!!

But count the bars - in many places there is more space In the bars than the churches!!
